Telkom to Triple Investment in Broadband Access to $3.7b in 2015

By Farid Firdaus on 12:54 pm Oct 16, 2014

Jakarta. State-controlled Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the country’s largest telecommunications company, plans to triple its investment in broadband connectivity next year to almost $4 billion.
The company is setting aside aside Rp 45 trillion ($3.7 billion) for building infrastructure for broadband access, up from Rp 15 trillion this year, said president director Arief Yahya on Wednesday. Government defines broadband as connectivity of at least 2 megabytes per second for fixed lines and 1 Mbps for mobile devices.
The company would add more transmission stations, lay down more fiber-optic cables and add satellites next year to expand broadband access, Arief said. The plan is line with the government’s Indonesia Broadband Plan, which seeks to connect most Indonesian household to broadband networks by 2019.
The company, known as Telkom, is now operating more than 26,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cables across the country.
